The Group of Democratic Centralism formed from the remnants of the 1918 left communist opposition. The Decists would raise their heads in protest at every moment when they felt the party was deviating. Lenin said at the 10 party congress in 1921 that these “highly valuable workers” would always constantly “fall into some kind of feverish paroxysm, try to shout louder than everyone else (the louder than all the shouters faction) and solemnly sit down in a galosh.” Shout loud they may have done, but they did not shout for no reason. Their shouts would soon be drowned out, but in 1931 Sapronov would take one last breath.
