In a society in which people are constantly busy, it is hard to have the mental energy and focus needed to get through our best days without some form of help. • For me, the most helpful invention is L-theanine. My brain has always been cluttered with thoughts so I try to ease my mind every day by taking a dose before bedtime. • L-theanine is said to affect serotonin levels in the brain and can be taken as a supplement or as an over-the-counter drug. For me, it is the latter. • L-theanine is a chemical that occurs naturally in green tea and other foods and beverages. It is a non-protein amino acid and has been proposed to be beneficial because it has been shown to have ameliorative effects on dopaminergic systems. • Dopaminergic systems are responsible for the regulation of many brain functions. Dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with the regulation of well-being, has been found to be heavily implicated in our mental health. • L-theanine is a non-protein amino acid that has been proposed to act as a neurotransmitter, in addition to its ability to affect brain serotonin levels. • Recent research has shown that L-theanine can aid in the treatment of anxiety and depression by acting as a nootropic compound by influencing GABAergic systems and upon the dopaminergic systems. • In a randomized, double-blind study, it was found that L-theanine could reduce stress and anxiety in healthy participants as well as those with diagnosed mental disorders. • A condition characterized by abnormal or pathological levels of anxiety is known as generalized anxiety disorder. • It is a chronic neuropsychiatric disorder with one of the highest incidences of all mental disorders, being at least twice as prevalent among females when compared to males. • I took L-theanine for 30 days straight • I was able to take theanine for 30 days straight without what I call an interruption . Meaning that I never felt nauseous, light-headed, or had any adverse effects whatsoever. I was able to take it with my Favorite coffee and it worked well with relatively low doses (i.e. 50 mg to 100mg) • For the first 2 days, I did not notice any significant changes in anxiety levels or mood. In fact, I felt like anything I ate after the first day I didn't feel as good. On the third day, I noticed that my sleep was more restful and more consistent in nature everyday (this is normally a problem for me). • My thought pattern improved and I felt less fatigued throughout the day. On day four, I started to notice the downward spiraling effect of caffeine in addition to L-theanine on my cognitive function. So I decided to cut out caffeine completely, and that was when the real benefits of L-theanine began to show. • Day five, I noticed that I could think better on a more creative level. • Day six, my memory improved and I was able to recall things without any effort. I felt more alert, focused, and was able to have longer conversations with people. • On day seven, I started a new job at a coffee shop that required me to use machines all day and I didn't feel any of the effects from using them. Throughout the month I started to notice that my concentration and focus ability increased throughout the entire day. • In fact, it reached levels at which I never thought possible for me on a daily basis. • Fast forward 30 days later, my sleep is consistent, my concentration levels are consistent throughout the day, I have more energy, and I feel less irritable. • I can see how my daily interactions with people improved because the way I think has drastically changed. My mood swings are also significantly less than they were before taking L-theanine. • If you're looking to try L-theanine then I can definitely recommend it.
