DISCLAIMER: Evan Matthews, PhD does not diagnose pathology and is not a medical professional. Dr. Matthews is a cardiovascular physiologist and researcher. • This is a video taken by Evan Matthews, PhD displaying the heart in a parasternal long axis view. This individual had known hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The walls are clearly hypertrophied. This video is slowed to 25% speed approximately half way through to allow for easier visualization. This condition can be appreciated by viewing a more typical heart in the same view (see link below). This view shows the left atrium in the (bottom right) meeting the left ventricle (left) through the mitral valve. It also shows the left ventricular outflow tract with the aortic valve. • Link to video of the parasternal long axis view in a normal health young adult. • • Echocardiogram Parasternal Long Axis ... • Link to video of a premature ventricular contraction and left ventricular hypertrophy on an Parasternal Long Axis View.
