On a plot of land with a significant slope and a south orientation, located in Choulakia, Mykonos, and facing the islands of Delos and Rineia, we decided to create a new residence partially underground on two floors. • The living area of the above ground part is 120m2, while the underground part is approximately 130m2. From the outset, the building was conceived as an element of a larger project that encompassed the entire 4000 m2 plot. The aim was to integrate the hard landscape and soft landscape of the building into the Mykonian natural landscape. As a result the created entity is not visible from the street. • The Latypi project blends with the archetypal architectural heritage as well as the Cycladic terrain, positioning itself as a contemporary intervention in the landscape. The concept is inspired by the local sculptural tradition, which has produced timeless works of art for centuries. • The intention to make the outdoor space the focal point of the building complex (an ancient Greek practice) is immediately apparent. At an altitude of +0.00 (64m above sea level) all spaces are developed around an atrium. In the center, an unyielding olive tree with roots deep in the Mediterranean landscape serves as a memorable element. • This part of the building consists of the main living areas: living room, kitchen and dining room, as well as two bedrooms, one with direct access to the courtyard and swimming pool, and the second, whose natural lighting is achieved through light sources. • On the same level, an outdoor amphitheater with about 60 seats overlooks the sacred island of Delos. At level +4.00 (68m above sea level) the second part of the residence is developed, almost entirely underground, and consists of two bedrooms and an en suite bathroom. This part is connected to the main building via a 2.00m wide open walkway. • It is protected by a planted roof and has a south orientation facing the Aegean Sea. The outdoor parking lot is also covered with a planted roof so that the presence of cars is not detected from above. • The landscape design is based on the existing natural terrain, borrowing elements of it, and reinterpreting the variety, texture, and color of the original plants to create a new palette. The goal is the least possible alteration of the natural landscape combined with the re-assimilation of local vegetation in the intervention area. The proposed xeromorphic plantings are resistant to similar soil and climate conditions and have low irrigation and maintenance requirements overall. • Project name: Latypi Residence • Architect: A31 Architecture - https://a31.gr/project/latypi-residence/ • Location: Mykonos, Greece • Area: 340 m² • Year: 2022 • Photo: • Yiannis Hadjiaslanis - https://www.hadjiaslanis.com/ • George Fakaros - http://www.fakaros.com/ • Principal Architect: Praxitelis Kondylis • Interior Design: ARCHITECTURE A31 / Praxitelis Kondylis • Landscape Design: ARCHETOPO URBANISM / LANDSCAPE • Lighting Design: HALO Architectural Lighting • Structural Engineer: Konstantine Gregoriades • MEP Consultant: Yiannis Deris • Principal Project Manager: Panagiotis Karras • Project Management Team: Ioanna Siouti • Design Team: Davide Fois, Anna Baltzi • Construction Supervisor: Panagiotis Karras, Praxitelis Kondylis, Nikos Pappas • Building Program/Use/Function: Residential • Artwork: Socrates Fatouros • California,California Modern Mansion,Mansion Tour,Orange County Mansion Tour,Home Tour, mansion, luxury home tour, luxury houses in california,California homes, luxury house,California mansion tour, ocean views,Los Angeles,Mega mansion,California mega mansion,Mediterranean mansion, luxury mansion usa, mega mansion,House tour,San Clemente mansion tour,San Clemente beach mansion,Oceanfront mansion, beach view, oceanfront,Spanish,San Clemente,Beachfront,Celebrity
