Using bell of stethoscope, listen to carotid arteries for bruits. Listen for turbulent blood flow. Bruits are a blowing vascular sound like murmurs indicating partially occluded blood vessels. May also indicate stroke. • Jugular Venous Distention (JVD): • Look for signs of increased central venous pressure (CVP), which is the measurement of pressure inside the vena cava. CVP indicates how much blood is flowing back into your heart.
