Twenty years ago, during the invasion of Iraq in the Battle of An Nasiriyah, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM with Task Force Tarawa, the Marines and Sailors of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines came under attack while assaulting and seizing the the Saddam Canal Bridge. • In this episode, Doc Fonseca shares the memory of his brothers and how their guidance helped shape the best aspects of the man he is today. Watch and listen as he retells the story of his brothers and his memory of that day. • During the battle, Hospitalman Apprentice, Luis Doc Fonseca overcame the self-preservation instinct and exposed himself to enemy fire on multiple occasions, to save the lives of 5 Marines. Tragically, he lost 18 of his Marine brothers before the day was over. • For his actions, Doc Fonseca was awarded the Navy Cross, our country's second highest award for valor.
