The Aluminaut is credited with rescuing the DSV Alvin-2 in 1969 after it sank, and helping to locate an atomic bomb lost off the coast of Palomares, Spain in 1966. Also featured in the film is footage of the NR-1, the Navy's nuclear powered research submarine, the bathyscaphe Trieste and Trieste II, and other vessels including the Perry Cubmarine. The film also includes footage of the Ben Franklin, a research vessel built by Jaccques Piccard which drifted in the Gulf Stream in 1969. • This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA.
