Taking on Hans Zimmer’s “The Kraken” from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was a monstrous challenge — fitting, given the subject. • Combining playing slightly muted bass strings normally and hitting them with a rubber mallet got me close to the ominous bass slapping sound from the first motif. • A technique that features prominently in this video is the strings pizzicato sound, achieved by rubbing the strings with rosined popsicle sticks. • For the first time, I also used string harmonics in one of my videos. By pushing down on a harmonic node and then playing the corresponding key, it produces a wonderful, bell-like overtone. (In this case, by pushing on a node a third of the way down the string, the pitch you hear is an octave and a fifth higher than the open string note). • Additionally there was a lot of percussion required, so the piano took quite the beating... • I hope you enjoy the dive into this deep abyss of sound that the piano has to offer if tickled just right. • ☕️☕️If you like my videos and want to support me, you can do so on https://ko-fi.com/pianified☕️☕️ • Original theme scored by Hans Zimmer for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest in 2006. • #thekraken #POTC #piano #cover #pianified #pirates #hanszimmer #jarofdirt #deadmanschest #epic
