The Chicago Mercantile Exchange launched bitcoin futures trading on December 18th. Who would short bitcoin? What are the implications of fork coins on futures markets for cryptocurrencies? One of the fundamental things you need for a futures market is a consistent, predictable, publicly audited reference rate (price) to underpin the legal contracts.
