It is known as the “Plunge Cut” method. It involves spring loading the tree trunk in the direction you want it to fall. This takes away the risk of having the tree get hung up on the stump, twisting off the stump in a different direction, or worst case ‘barber-chairing’. • Disclaimer: It can be tricky cutting down a large tree in a suburban environment with houses and cars all around.
