The song - by the Spanish vocal duo Baccara – was written by Frank Dostal Rolf Soja, and produced by Soja. • It was released in April 1977 (West Germany) and November 1977 (Spain). • The single version was 3:15 min. while the album version was longer – 4:37 min. • The song was a hit across Europe and became the duo's sole #1 single in the UK, spending 1 week at the top of the UK Singles Chart in October 1977. • It also reached #1 in Belgium, Denmark , Finland , Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland West Germany. In Spain Austria it reached #2 while in France, it reached #5. • Baccara were Spanish flamenco dancers Mayte Mateos María Mendiola. • They were discovered on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands by RCA Records executive Leon Deane, who saw them dancing flamenco and singing traditional songs for tourists and signed them to the label.
