Legumes are a growing trend: In the EU, their cultivation area could double in the next ten years. This is because they provide plenty of protein and can serve as a supplement or alternative to animal products in a plant-based nutrition. But which benefits do legumes, and peas in particular, offer beyond that? They make an important contribution to more sustainable agriculture. Thanks to their phytosanitary effect, they also play a role in reducing crop protection agents. In addition, they fix nitrogen and therefore counteract a high level of nitrate pollution. This eliminates the need for using mineral nitrogen fertilizer and contributes to reducing CO2, explains Nina Blijdorp, who is responsible for international product development in the field of peas at KWS. • You can find the whole story at the World of Farming: • https://www.kws.com/corp/en/media-inn... • Discover more stories from the world of agriculture at: • https://www.kws.com/corp/en/media-inn... • #WorldofFarming #KWSWoF #peas #protein #biodiversity
