How to Improvise Hand Embroidery on a Jacket

This is a quick show-n-tell of a women’s jacket I've been embellishing with hand embroidery in a free form, meandering sort of way. See samples of simple stitches and hear me talk about the freedom that comes from setting limits before starting creative work. • In this project, I limited myself to a single stitch – a short dash – which freed my mind to relax and wander while my hands combined those dashes into improvisational designs. Nothing was sketched out in advance, so there was no way to do it wrong. • I put the jacket fabric into an embroidery hoop and moved the hoop around the garment, using it as a template to create overlapping circles. The result is an exotic looking, colorful design, that was actually very simple to stitch. • Videos are released casually.
