Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. • Special Thanks to Harrymega :) • Barev! I'm anuns Andy eh. Inchkhes? • Hello! My name is Andy. How are you? • Let's talk about the Karin/Gyumri dialect. • The Karin dialect (Karnoy barbař) is a Western Armenian dialect originally spoken in Erzurum (Karin) and its surrounding areas, now in eastern Turkey. Before World War I, it was used by Armenians in the Erzurum Vilayet of Ottoman Empire) and Kars Oblast of Russian Empire). After the Armenian genocide of 1915, many speakers fled to Russian-controlled Armenia. Though the First Republic of Armenia briefly controlled Kars, it was occupied by Turkey in 1920. Today, the Karin dialect remains one of the most widely spoken Western Armenian dialects, surviving in Gyumri, Armenia, and among Armenians in Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti province, despite many Western Armenian dialects nearing extinction post-genocide. • Gyumri, home to nearly 150,000 residents, is a vibrant city known for its rich history and cultural charm, making it a popular tourist destination in Armenia. The city is well-equipped with modern amenities, including banks, schools, and other essentials for a comfortable life. Gyumri is also experiencing rapid development, with new companies emerging, particularly in the information technology sector. Its Old Town is a unique attraction where visitors can immerse themselves in the original Armenian architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries. This historic neighborhood, with its cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages, offers a journey back in time. • Gyumri boasts a proud cultural heritage, having produced numerous renowned figures, from actors to Olympic champions. The city’s most celebrated star is actor Frunzik, beloved throughout the former USSR. A museum dedicated to him, located in a historic building he once frequented, showcases his creative and personal life. The cold climate of the Shirak region has influenced its cuisine, which features hearty meat dishes such as Shirak Papkeni, a spiced minced lamb delicacy enhanced with cinnamon. Another local favorite is Dtmachash, or pumpkin dinner. For dessert, Gyumri offers yagli, a sweet puff pastry, and barley coffee, a healthy drink with a distinctive bread-like flavor. • This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
