Tenochtitlan was a large Mexica city-state located under much of what is now known as the historic center of Mexico City. • It is quite remarkable that an entire ancient Aztec city exists under the city. The ancient city discovered when a local worker was drilling to access electricity cables. • Once found, the government had two square blocks excavated by demolishing the existing buildings.
