Government tends to be the problem and cause for many economic crises. • “Firestarter” , a movie based on Steven King’s book, is what sparked the discussion of today’s episode. The plot of it is, the government runs clinical trials that go wrong, and then years later, the government creates an agency to remedy the damage it caused. Ultimately, a product which was created goes wrong, and it literally destroys all the government officials and buildings where it all started. • Aside from the Civil War, the Great Depression was the gravest crisis in American History. The Great Depression, which began mid 1929 in the United States, saw GDP fall, unemployment rise to 25%, hunger, and desperation. This led to a global spread of problems, such as: the rise of Adolf Hitler coming to power in Germany, setting the stage for World War II, the rise of Communism in China, and Socialism and almost Communism in the US, if not for the Schechter brothers (ALA Schechter Poultry Corporation vs United States). • Propaganda at the time persuaded the public that capitalism was an unstable system destined for a great fall, which led to the idea the government had to play a greater role in the economy. During this time the government blamed the problems on external influences and the private sector for the unstable economy, while taking credit for all the success. • This led to the rise of the centrally planned government for businesses in the US. “The government is always the source for economic instability.” • The National Regulatory Administration (NRA) was a new agency created to design norms and regulations for numerous industries to keep competition low, prices high, and prevent unfair competition . This is when the Schechter's’ case is a perfect example of what the government and NRA did to them! • In this episode, listen for: • [00:04:07] Depression propaganda convinced the public that capitalism was unstable and prone to recurring crises, so the government intervene more in the economy • [00:04:50] The Great Depression was the cause and effect of the monetary collapse • [00:06:25] The New Deal flirted with Marxist principles and the assumption that the Soviet Union was a more humanitarian society. • [00:07:05] The Live Poultry Code and dealing with unfair competition setting the stage for the Schecther’ case against a president FDR overreaching on his unconstitutional boundaries • If you have any questions, please do submit them via email at [email protected] • For more resources, wealth management guidance, or retirement consulting, please visit www.blueriverinvestor.com • You can also follow me on Linked In at   / leoalapont   • Don’t forget to Subscribe to this channel come back next week for another fresh video!
