Fue declarado Parque Nacional en 1995 por ser “de interés general de la Nación la conservación de Cabañeros como espacio natural representativo del ecosistema de bosque mediterráneo. • Entre sus ecosistemas mas notables destaca la “Raña”, extenso herbazal escasamente arbolado, rodeado de montañas cubiertas por bosque mediterráneo. Esta zona es lugar ideal para que la Lechuza Común cace los pequeños roedores y pájaros de los que se alimenta. • Suele instalar sus nidos en oquedades de las casas, no molestándoles la presencia humana. Debido a que cada vez hay menos agujeros disponibles, y para favorecer su cría, se instaló hace mas de 20 años esta caja nido. Desde entonces es raro el año en que no ha criado, soportando bien los ruidos causados por el tránsito de los numerosos visitantes que acuden al Parque cada año. • Diferenciación sexual: • ♂️ más blanco; vientre y flancos con un leve moteado; gorguera poco marcada • ♀️ más oscura; con moteado en pecho, vientre y flancos muy marcado; gorguera muy marcada (parece tener barba ) • You are looking inside a Barn Owl (Tyto alba) nest located near the ‘Casa Palillos’ Visitor Centre in the Cabañeros National Park, located between the provinces of Ciudad Real and Toledo, in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. • It currently covers an area of 40,856 hectares. It was declared a National Park in 1995 because ‘the conservation of Cabañeros as a natural area representative of the Mediterranean forest ecosystem is of general national interest. • Among its most notable ecosystems is the ‘Raña’, an extensive sparsely wooded grassland, surrounded by mountains covered by Mediterranean forest. This area is an ideal place for the Barn Owl to hunt the small rodents and birds on which it feeds. • They usually build their nests in the hollows of houses, undisturbed by human presence. Due to the fact that there are fewer and fewer holes available, and to encourage breeding, this nest box was installed more than 20 years ago. Since then it is rare the year in which it has not bred, withstanding well the noise caused by the traffic of the numerous visitors who come to the Park every year. • Sexual differentiation: • ♂️ whiter; belly and flanks with slight mottling; ruff not very marked. • ♀️ darker; with very marked mottling on chest, belly and flanks; very marked ruff (appears to have a ‘beard’).
