Check the photo at the end! • Ever heard of the TCA CROSS (Chemical Reconstruction Of Skin Scars) treatment? It is used to treat ice-pick scars from acne and enlarged pores. We use trichloroacetic acid to elevate the base of these scars or pores so that they grow back to the level of the surrounding skin. The acid causes a local inflammatory reaction that leads to the production of new collagen fibers at the base of the lesion. We will often do this to the deepest acne scars BEFORE using a laser to resurface the skin. • The scars or pores turn WHITE with contact with the TCA due to denaturation of proteins. Soon after, the skin becomes red and the remodeling of scar tissue starts. Sun protection is crucial after the TCA CROSS procedure.
