There is massive outrage over the death of 31 year old Savita. Even as she and her husband begged to have her pregnancy terminated due to medical complications, hospital authorities in Ireland refused as the law in Ireland, which is a predominantly Catholic country, does not allow abortion. Savita's death has sparked protests. • Savita, hailing from Karnataka, died from blood poisoning at University Hospital Galway on October 28 after doctors allegedly refused to perform an abortion stating this is a Catholic country . Abortion is illegal in Ireland except where there is a real and substantial risk to the life, as distinct from the health, of the mother.
