In talking about core strength and how we’re supposed to RESIST motion, rather than CREATE motion (crunches, trunk twists) … Anti-rotation might be the key. Anti-rotation means resisting motion at the lumbar spine (lower back). When a force is being delivered that’s trying to cause trunk rotation, it’s the core’s job to prevent that from happening. • The core has two tasks. 1) Prevent movement and 2) Link the upper and lower body to create power. This is important because: proximal stiffness enhances distal athleticism. • Translation: when your core is strong and you’re properly bracing the trunk, you’ll move faster. This means a stronger core equals greater speed and strength. AKA: run faster, lift heavier, move better.
