Meeting people, watching the surfers, chatting with other anglers, and playing name that boat can be embraced as part of the pier fishing experience or viewed as a distraction. The truth of it is, pier fishing needs such entertaining distraction. Pier fishing the bite is either full on or not on at all due to situation of the tide. Inlets situated by piers create a straw like suction or water breathe situation that the fish don't choose to fight when active. During the change of the guards is when the fish will get their feed on and this only lasts a short time before the current is too strong again. Surf fishing from the beach is a more consistent bite for a longer stretch but the sacrifice may include less interaction time with other anglers. Saltwater fishing alone and want to chat?
