Classical scholar and translator Moses Hadas speaks about specific examples of Hellenistic influence on Hebrew literature and sacred texts. This is the third part of a four-part series about the relationship between ancient Greek and ancient Hebrew culture and literature. Hadas discusses the intellectual and cultural climate of ancient Jewish life in Palestine and compares that cultural landscape to that of ancient Jewish diasporas. Hadas then explores the Hellenistic influence on Hebrew literature through an exploration of the Old Testament Canon. The lecture is followed with audience questions. • Recorded Feb 17, 1966 at the 92nd Street Y, New York. • Your support helps us continue creating online content for our community.
