Here's a short video on taking height/elevation difference readings using a level and level rod. • At 0:55, I was misleading when saying perpendicular to the ground . Both the level and the level rod are level (perpendicular to the Earth's gravity) when taking a reading, so they are parallel to each other. This gets more complicated when at longer distances where the curvature of the Earth comes into effect, but we don't get into that here. • This is for CIVE2004, the undergraduate surveying lab at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
