How to Make Sliding Doors

You'll want some of these cool sliding doors for your garage once you see how simple they are to construct. • Each door is essentially a series of horizontal slats 'sandwiched' between two sets of vertical 'stiles.' We'll show you the basics of this door build but make sure you study the plans --and of course, don't expect it to go quite this quickly. • Use some scrap wood to get the whole assembly up off the floor - you'll need the working room for some clamps later - then lay out two vertical stiles, and make sure you check for square and level before you start installing the slats. The doors get assembled face-down, so that the screws won't show when you're all finished, so what you're looking at is actually the backside of the door. • Work your slat installation from the top down and after you get your first 3 slats in -- check for square again so you know you're on-track. There are quite a few slats to install, so using a spacer instead of measuring each time, it makes the process quicker and more accurate. • When you get to the middle section of slats, the pattern changes a little, so use the spacer lengthwise to install these two slats. Then go back to the original spacing pattern for the last section of slats. Working top to bottom again, install the top trim board on the underside of the stiles -- this is where that extra space for clamping comes in handy. Then attach the roller mounting board. Moving down to the center section, add 3 center slats underneath the stiles. Then add the bottom trim board and the bottom blocking. • Now you can 'sandwich' in all the slats, using the second set of vertical stiles. Add the remaining top trim board, 3 more center slats, and the final bottom trim board. install the rail system - and hang your sliding doors in your garage. They'd also be great in a family room, a bedroom, a kitchen, or wherever you want the ability to conceal and reveal a space. • For all the supplies you will need to build your sliding doors, visit http://www.Lowes.com • Subscribe to Lowe's YouTube for great how to videos and home improvement tips: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c... • Or head to our channel: / lowes
