Train travel has evolved over the last 200 years from horse drawn carriages to high speed trains that allow millions of people per year to traverse countries and continents safely and without incident. However, when things go wrong they are usually mass casualty incidents and the resulting scene is a hellscape of twisted metal and devastation. • This was the scene that confronted rescue workers on 24 July 2013 just outside the city of Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain when they attended the worst train crash in the country after a high speed train entered a sharp curve travelling at twice the recommended speed derailed. This accident was caught on camera and the footage is shocking.
