The Ants and the Grasshopper is an Aesop Fable that was rewritten for children. It is read by Evergreen Tales from the book The Aesop for Children , published in 1919. • The fable bears the moral: there is a time for work and a time for play. in this kids' story, the ants spend their summer working hard to prepare for winter (when they would rest and play). The grasshopper spends his summer having fun and making music, with the result that he is left hungry and cold for the winter. • THE ANTS AND THE GRASSHOPPER • One bright day in late autumn a family of Ants were bustling about in the warm sunshine, drying out the grain they had stored up during the summer, when a starving Grasshopper, his fiddle under his arm, came up and humbly begged for a bite to eat. • What! cried the Ants in surprise, haven't you stored anything away for the winter? What in the world were you doing all last summer? • I didn't have time to store up any food, whined the Grasshopper; I was so busy making music that before I knew it the summer was gone. • The Ants shrugged their shoulders in disgust. • Making music, were you? they cried. Very well; now dance! And they turned their backs on the Grasshopper and went on with their work. • MORAL of this STORY: There's a time for work and a time for play. • READING CREDIT: • This story reading is by our guest reader, Ruth Lewis. • MUSIC CREDITS: • The theme music for this children's story video was created and recorded by Eddie Lewis (http://www.EddieLewis.com). • ART CREDITS: • The graphics for this kids' story video were created by Pearl Lewis (http://www.DrPearlLewis.com).
