#Starstreak High Velocity #Missile - Close Range Anti Air Guided Weapon System • The Starstreak High Velocity Missile (HVM) is a close-range anti-air guided-weapon system for use against helicopters and high-speed ground attack aircraft. The system is produced by • Thales Air Defence Ltd (TADL), formerly Shorts Missile Systems, based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is also known as Starstreak HVM (High Velocity Missile). • After launch, the missile accelerates to more than Mach 4, making it the fastest short-range surface-to-air missile in the world. The Starstreak High Velocity Missile (HVM) is designed to • counter threats from very high performance, low-flying aircraft and fast ‘pop up’ strikes by helicopter attacks. The missile, which travels at more than three times the speed of sound, uses a system of three dart-like projectiles, allowing multiple hits on the target. HVM can be fired from the shoulder, from a lightweight multiple launcher or from the Stormer armoured vehicle. • Starstreak cannot be jammed by infrared countermeasures or radar/radio countermeasures, and cannot be suppressed with anti-radar missiles. As soon as a target is detected • the operator presses the trigger and launches the missile. • The laser beam riding guidance, which enables precision engagement of the smallest of targets, is immune to all known countermeasures. The hittiles in flight cannot be decoyed by even the latest flares or Electronic Countermeasures (ECM). • FEATURES BENEFITS • •Proven capability against air targets • •Immediate launch capability - no seeker cool down or lock-on required • •High precision laser beam riding guidance which is immune to all known countermeasures • •Low signature rocket motor with short burn time • •Low laser beam energy levels ensuring no warning to target • •Automatic cut down capability for missile in flight (to avoid fratricide) • •Zero maintenance missile - no in service support •Precision strike/low collateral damage • •Insensitive Munitions (IM) compliance • Specifications : • Mass : 14.00 kg (30.86 lb) • Length : 1.397 m (4 ft 7 in) • Diameter : 13 cm (5.1 in) • Effective firing range : • Starstreak : 0.3–7 km (0.19–4.35 mi) • Starstreak II : 7+ km (4.35+ mi) • Warhead : • Three explosive sub-munitions (darts) • Warhead weight : • 3 × 0.90 kg (2.0 lb) tungsten alloy darts, 450 g (16 oz) PBX-98 per dart • Detonation mechanism : • Impact delay • Engine : • First stage : Royal Ordnance 'Brambling' cast double-based propellant blip rocket motor. • Second stage : Royal Ordnance 'Titus' cast double-based propellant • Maximum speed : More than Mach 4 at second stage burnout • Guidance system : • SACLOS • • ================== • Copyright Disclaimer- Title 17, US Code (Sections 107-118 of the copyright law, Act 1976): All media in this video is used for purpose of review commentary under terms of fair use.
