I've been shooting video with the Canon 60D and still photos with the Nikon D700 until recently when I decided to sell the D700 and go with the Nikon D600. This gives me a full-frame DSLR that can shoot video in addition to breathtaking still images. But how well does the Nikon D600 do when shooting video? • This episode was shot exclusively on the Nikon D600 and in it I show some of my first sample footage as well as talk about some of the things that I do NOT like about the video capabilities. • Overall, the Nikon D600 is awesome for still photos and for video it produces very nice looking footage in the camera. However, Nikon appears to have made some poor decisions in terms of including features that would make the D600 and epic cinema style video camera: No live histogram, no aperture control when in video live view, and only 95% of the frame in HDMI output (Update Summer 2013: Nikon has fixed the HDMI issue in a firmware update). • But still, I'm happy with the camera and hope that Nikon can bring themselves to fix these issues in a firmware update. If they did, this camera would be epic for both stills and video! • Nikon D600: • http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009... • This episode shot using the following: • Nikon D600 • Nikkor 105mm f/1.8 AiS lens • Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AF-D lens • Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone • Tascam DR-100mkII audio recorder • All content, including music created solely by Curtis Judd who retains copyright thereto (2013). • Ethics statement: Some of the links above are Amazon.com, B H Photo, or other affiliate links.
