Continuing my Colombian adventure, my good friends Beto Fanny took me to this ecological park to enjoy its natural beauty and participate in what turned out to be an exhausting hike down to the third waterfalls and back up... but the natural setting made it worthwhile, and we got to cool off under the cool rushing waters of that third waterfalls. :o) • Cascada la Periquera is an impressive 16m (52ft) high waterfall that is the centerpiece of an ecological park, a place of natural beauty with an interesting history. The waterfall bears the name of the Periquera , which comes from a species of birds called the parakeet, which lived in this area. • It was formerly known as the Cascadas de la Guacamaya , which means Children of those who interpret dreams, so named by the indigenous Muiscas. • The La Periquera ecological park is a nature reserve and tourist destination, located in the central region of the Boyacá department , in the center of Colombia . It has a set of waterfalls, surrounded by forests with great biological diversity, it has become a great destination for all types of people. • The park is made up of a forest composed mostly of Oak trees, the native species of the area. The Cebada River starts 8 km upstream and passes through the entire park forming the chain of waterfalls. • It is located in the municipality of Villa de Leyva, which is 177 km north of Bogotá. • Due to its geography, several extreme sports are practiced in the park, such as: canopy walkways, ziplining, rappelling, climbing wall, and others. There are also ecological walks which, thanks to the biodiversity of the area, are very popular with visitors. • Above info based on Wikipedia article and Santum page (https://www.santumnature.com/post/la-.... • [2:30|v905|2024-01-12]
