Opening and Closing of Stomata.🌱🌱🌱 • The opening and closing of stomata are regulated by the turgor pressure in the guard cells that surround each stoma. This process allows for gas exchange (CO₂, O₂) and transpiration (water loss) in plants. • Mechanism: • 1. *Opening of Stomata:* • During the day, photosynthesis occurs, and guard cells actively take in potassium ions (K⁺) from surrounding cells. • This causes water to enter the guard cells via osmosis, increasing turgor pressure. • The guard cells swell and become turgid, causing them to bend outward and open the stomatal pore. • This allows CO₂ to enter for photosynthesis and excess water to leave through transpiration. • 2. *Closing of Stomata:* • At night or in water-stressed conditions, potassium ions (K⁺) move out of the guard cells. • Water leaves the guard cells, reducing turgor pressure. • The guard cells become flaccid and collapse, closing the stomatal pore. • This prevents water loss through transpiration when photosynthesis is not required. • • Notes Available on WhatsApp Channel.. • Follow Channel.. • https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VannYcI3w... • Factors Affecting Stomatal Movement: • **Light**: Stomata generally open in the presence of light. • **Water Availability**: In dry conditions, stomata tend to close to conserve water. • **Carbon Dioxide Levels**: Low CO₂ in the leaf promotes stomatal opening. • **Hormones**: Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a crucial role in stomatal closure during drought stress. • This regulated mechanism helps plants balance water loss with gas exchange essential for photosynthesis. • #cbse #cbseclass10 #education #biologybasics #stomata #Biology Class x
