http://permaculture-design-course.com Last year there was an Appropriate Technology Course, held at Wheaton labs. The course took place over a two week period and the entire event was filmed. Now, the entire video is ready for release into the world. During the course, we built a solar food dehydrator, a rocket oven, a rocket water heater, a bio-sand filter, a Johnson-style air well, as well as a contraption called the Easy-bake Coffin . Think of that like a giant crockpot that uses far less energy than a traditional crockpot. We also created a haybox cooker, which uses no energy at all. • The first step in creating all of these items is to understand the mechanics of how they work. That's what the classroom time is for. Tim Barker taught a lot of the course and you won't believe what a wealth of information that guy is. Talk about in depth and detail oriented. During the class we talked about photo voltaic systems, composting toilets, oil barrel reuses, solar ovens and welding. • Then it's time to go outside and build some experience with the solar ovens. The class participants also get some experience operating an excavator. Who doesn't wish they had the chance to move some serious earth from time to time? That just looks like so much fun. • Students are also taught how to weld and they are given the opportunity to do as much welding as they like. It's a very valuable skill to have and if you're good at it, there are plenty of opportunities to use your new skill to earn some money after the course. • The entire course is one-hundred-thirty-three hours in length.
