Kailua Hongwanji Mission has been a place of gratitude, harmony, and peace for its community for 50 years. Its members come from all over the Windward side of Oahu to share in the teachings of Jodo Shishu Buddhism. • We celebrate our golden anniversary by looking back at its history from its humble beginnings as a converted place of residence to the modern, multi-purpose facility it has become. • Jodo Shinshu Buddhism is a school of Pure Land Buddhism founded by Shinran Shonin. It emphasizes the importance of faith and gratitude towards Amida Buddha in attaining rebirth in the Pure Land, a realm of enlightenment and peace. • Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, Kailua Hongwanji Mission is a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist church and a branch of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii serving Windward Oahu.
