KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The International Palm Oil Congress and Exhibition 2023 (PIPOC 2023), hosted by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), concluded on November 9, 2023, after a three-day exploration of the outlook for the oil palm industry. • More than 100 world-renowned speakers shared their insights on current trends, challenges, opportunities, and the latest technologies at the world's largest oil palm congress and exhibition, which was held from November 7-9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. • PIPOC 2023, themed Navigating Uncertainties, Building Resilience, focused on exploring sustainability and innovation in the oil palm industry, emphasizing environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic development. • PIPOC 2023 delved into the latest research and technological advancements, fostering innovation while ensuring sustainable practices, said MPOB Director-General Datuk Dr. Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir in a statement. • The event gathered 2,000 participants from across the globe, providing an excellent networking opportunity for participants to connect, collaborate, and establish beneficial partnerships. • PIPOC 2023 hosted four concurrent conferences: • Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Sustainability Conference • Processing, Food Safety, and Nutrition Conference • Downstream and Value Addition Conference • Global Economics and Marketing Conference • PIPOC 2023 was launched by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Deputy Prime Minister and Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Sri Fadillah Yusof was also present at the event. • Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who highlighted the government's commitment to sustainability and innovation in the oil palm industry. He also urged the European Union to implement its Deforestation-free Regulation (EUDR) in a fair and balanced manner. • Anwar emphasized the need to promote the welfare of society as a whole, and to address the disparity in inequality between large and small businesses in the palm oil industry. He said that he would look at the possibility of increasing the allocation for smallholders, provided that large companies provide support to them. • The Prime Minister also announced a RM100 million palm replanting programme incentive allocation through grant and loan to 7,000 independent oil palm smallholders. This incentive will enable smallholders to increase productivity by replanting old trees with new breeds with high yield potential. • Anwar also urged the EU to recognize the efforts that Malaysia and Indonesia have taken to safeguard the environment and produce sustainable palm oil.
