This is how to test and diagnose an outboard stator. If you have ignition problems or your battery doesn't charge it could be your stator. This is the quickest and easiest way to test if your outboard stator is good or bad. All you need to test your stator is a cheap multimeter. Corroded connectors will really throw off your readings. • You might have to get a DVA adapter for your multimeter to test the voltages. Some voltages can be tested without this adapter. However, these readings are not always accurate. • • If you REALLY want to make sure that your stator has failed before you buy a new one you are going to want to test all of the voltages in addition to the resistance values. • Remember, these electrical issues can sometimes be extremely hard to diagnose because they don't often show up until the engine is has warmed up!
