The start of the 2023 Rolex Fastnet Race from Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK. • ...https://onthewight.com/watch-paul-kni... • A fresh to strong south westerly wind provided a lively start to this world famous bi-annual offshore sailing race. But persistent rain and cloud made the visibility moderate at best, and poor for much of the time - not great for spectators, but crowds nevertheless lined the front at Cowes dressed up for the forecasted weather. • 430 boats in eight classes setting off at 15 minute intervals starting at 1pm from the Royal Yacht Squadron start line. The big trimarans were the first to set off at the 1pm gun signal followed by the 60' (18m) IMOCA class foiled monohulls fifteen minutes later. The majority of the yachts, all smaller but not less than 30 feet in length, followed on in their respective starting groups. • 695 miles to go with the big trimarans and foiled monohulls expected to complete it in around two days and the majority of the smaller 30' yachts in around six days - all of course, very much depending on the prevailing conditions. • For comprehensive coverage, updates and general information about the race take a look at the official Rolex Fastnet Race website - https://www.rolexfastnetrace.com/en/ • Also, well worth a look, Matt Sheahan from Planet Sail ( A Brutal Start ) - • Rolex Fastnet Race 2023 - A Brutal Start • Music: (courtesy of Epidemic Sound) • Deepest Secrets and New Tomorrow by Tape Machines • Film gear: • Panasonic Lumix GH5 with 300mm Nikkor lens, tripod with fluid head.
