Dr. David Shelburne is a family medicine physician with Wake Forest Baptist Health. • He practices in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. • Learn more about Dr. Shelburne: http://www.wakehealth.edu/Faculty/She... • http://www.wakehealth.edu/Request-an-... • http://www.wakehealth.edu/Primary-Care/ • TRANSCRIPT: Dr. David Shelburne, Family Medicine. • I started here as a medical student back in 2004 and stayed with Wake Forest throughout my training and realized the excellent opportunity I had to stay with Wake Forest for my residency training. • I think Wake Forest is a great center for academic excellence as well as patient care and I was inspired by Wake's dedication to Primary Care. • I think family medicine has a very broad range of specialties per se, we take care of the classic cradle to the grave. • I like taking care of newborns, I especially like adolescents, high school students, college-aged students, all the way up to my middle aged and geriatric population. • I think my philosophy is a little different in that I like allowing my patients to be fully informed of their options in their decisions. And instead of being a physician that tells a patient what they should do, I like to let them know the pros and the cons of their decision - allow the patient to guide their care. • I like to know that they're an integral part of the decision-making rather than me being authoritative and telling them what they should do.
