Open fire mesquite turkey leg recipe ⬇️ • INGREDIENTS: • • 3 lbs of turkey drumsticks • • 23 fl oz La Lechonera’s Original Mojo Criollo Spanish Marinade • • ½ cup of La Lechonera’s Carne Asada rub • • ½ cup of La Lechonera’s Gourmet Garlic salt • • ½ cup of olive oil • • 1-2 sticks of sweet cream unsalted butter • • Optional* fresh herbs (oregano, thyme, bay leaves) • THE COOK: • • Prep your turkey legs by marinating for at least 6 hours or for best results overnight in La Lechonera’s Original Mojo Criollo Spanish Marinade. Optional* you can also add fresh herbs for extra flavor. • • After marinating overnight pat dry your turkey legs with paper towels until they are completely dry. • • Add olive oil or your preferred binder to your turkey legs. This will help your seasonings stick onto the legs. • • Season with La Lechonera’s carne asada rub and garlic salt until fully covered! Pat your seasonings in DO NOT RUB! • • Heat your grill to 275 degrees with lump charcoal and mesquite wood chips. • • Adjust your turkey legs or grates to cook “indirectly” over your fire. • • Cook for 30 minutes before gently flipping your legs. Cook for an additional 30 minutes or until your legs reach and internal temperature of 130 degrees. • • Once your turkey legs reach 130 degrees wrap tightly between 2 pieces of foil in a bed of butter as well as some extra seasoning. • • Place them back onto the grill and continue cooking until they reach 175 degrees internal. • • Once they reach 175 degrees internal allow them to rest for about 10-15 minutes. • • Serve them with your favorite sides and enjoy! • #turkey #smokedturkey #openfirecooking #holidays #holiday
