His father died in the early years of World War II, he and his mother overcame difficulties and survived the war. In 1952 (age 17), while in hospital for tuberculosis treatment, he asked for a book Ivanov-Kramskoy's 7-string guitar self-study guide . He studied by himself according to this book and devoted his life to guitar. In 1956 (age 21), he passed the entrance exam and studied guitar at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music School for Adults and graduated in 1959. After a period of working with the local symphony orchestra, he left to travel with a pop group. But after only a year, because his mother was ill, he returned home and began teaching guitar. In 1961 (age 26) he continued his Composition course at the House of Composers, and regularly performed on the guitar. In 1964, he worked at the Bolshoi Theatre in St. Petersburg and became its Artistic Director... He began composing and setting poems to music, not only for guitar but also for theater - cinema and for children...
