This video is dedicated to Serapo and Gaeta, an enchanting place. • Serapo beach (Blue Flag) is characterized by very fine sand and is about 1.5 km long. • This beach was once a dune, but tons of sand were used to make bottles, from the glass factory, opened in 1911 between Corso and Serapo and the beach was considerably reduced in width. At the north-western end of the beach, facing the promontory of Fontania, not far from the shore is the Nave di Serapo , a rock whose elongated shape resembles that of a ship, which is a fairly important biological site. There are several legends regarding the origin of this rock: it would be Ulysses' ship transformed into stone by the anger of abandoned Circe, or that of a captain who would have suffered the same fate after, during a procession in honor of the Madonna, would have assumed irreverent attitudes. The beach is closed to the south by Monte Orlando, a small promontory on which the Mausoleum of Lucio Munazio Planco and the Sanctuary of Montagna Spaccata are located; to the north, from another parallel promontory, lower, where there are some inlets with private or public access to bathing. • In the continuation of the video the city of Gaeta is then shown, a marine republic in the nineteenth century and of very ancient origins, it is certainly one of the beauties of our territory not to be missed. • In fact, we recall that in addition to the more famous Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice, Ancona, Gaeta, Noli and, in Dalmatia, Ragusa are also considered maritime republics; in certain historical moments they had no secondary importance compared to some of the better known ones.
