Radio station identification for the only FM talk radio station in Los Angeles, KLSX 97.1 • KNOU (97.1 FM, also known as 97.1 Now! ) is a commercial radio station in Los Angeles, California, United States. It falls under the ownership of Audacy, Inc. and boasts a radio format focused on top 40 (CHR) music. Situated at the crossroads of Wilshire and Hauser boulevards in the Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles, its studios complement the transmitter situated on Mount Wilson. • On July 31, 1995, KLSX transformed, adopting a hot talk format on weekdays and the name Real Radio 97.1. During this phase, notable hosts like Susan Olsen, Ken Ober, Scott Ferrall, Riki Rachtman, Kato Kaelin, Mother Love, Carlos Oscar, Voxx, and the Regular Guys (Larry Wachs and Eric von Haessler) graced the airwaves. This shift faced criticism from Howard Stern, who humorously dubbed it Hindenburg Radio. Subsequently, in 1996, the station bid adieu to the Real Radio identity and embraced The FM Talk Station. This period saw new hosts taking the stage, and the following year marked the station's adoption of the syndicated Tom Leykis Show as its flagship program. April 1, 2002, witnessed a playful nod to the past, with Kaelin and the Real Radio slogans returning temporarily as part of an April Fools' Day jest. • KLSX's ownership journey saw Greater Media own it until 1997, when a swap involving KLSX and sister station KRLA occurred, leading to the exchange of stations in Philadelphia and Boston. This transition brought KLSX into the fold of CBS Radio, aligning it with FM stations KTWV and KCBS-FM, alongside AM stations KNX and KFWB. • From 1995 to 1997, KLSX embraced alternative music on weekends, diverging from direct competition with sister station KROQ-FM. Transitioning to adult album alternative music for a mature audience, the station incorporated a blend of album rock and alternative genres. This format persisted on weekends until 1999, when the emphasis shifted towards talk programs, with only Breakfast with the Beatles retaining its musical character. The station distinguished itself with late-night talk shows hosted by women, including Dr. X and, briefly, Shrink Rap. KLSX hosted the syndicated novelty music show Dr. Demento during this era. • KLSX was the radio home for the NFL's Oakland Raiders in the Los Angeles area. It also aired games through the Jones Radio Network's Sports USA service and NFL on Westwood One Sports. In 2001, it broadcast the Los Angeles Xtreme of the XFL, and sported a sports year-in-review program from Westwood One. • In 2005, significant shifts occurred. Adam Carolla was slated to replace Howard Stern as the morning show host in January 2006, marking Stern's move to satellite radio. This occasion also marked the adoption of the on-air identity 97.1 Free FM, emphasizing the station's free-to-air nature instead of subscription-based satellite radio. The Free FM branding extended to KSCF in San Diego, KIFR in San Francisco, and other hot talk-oriented stations under CBS Radio. This era welcomed new hosts and alterations, like the Frosty, Heidi, and Frank Show introduction. • Throughout the years, KLSX underwent shifts in hosts, branding, and programming, leaving a mark on Los Angeles radio history. • © 2007 KLSX-97.1 FM Los Angeles • Posted for entertainment and educational purposes only. • No copyrights were infringed. • Flash Friday • #KLSX #RadioID #losangelesradio #fmradio #TimConwayJr #TomLeykis #Leykis101 #cbsradio #westwoodone #arseniohall #radiostation #CallLetters #stationid #hottalk #cowmissing
