Watch as Better Homes and Gardens shows you how to cut tile! This home improvement idea will help you keep your new ceramic tile clean and crisp after your kitchen remodel. You can buy a tile cutter from a local home improvement store for less than $30, and you'll also need a rubbing stone. Mark your tile where you will be cutting it with a marker and straight edge. Then place the tile, glazed side up, into the tile cutter, lining up the marker and the guideline. With light pressure, run the carbide wheel across the tile, slicing through the glaze, in a process called scoring . Make sure the tile has not shifted, and press down on the lever directly over the score line, and the tile will easily snap into 2 pieces. If the snap is not neat, use the rubbing stone to smooth the edges.
