In this video I AM - David Long discusses the Key differences Between the Integral Brand and Integral 2.0: • 1. No Idealism/creationism • No “spirit” underlying everything, or inherent telos to the kosmos, No afterlife, perfection or transcendence. - We do not believe in mythic supernatural ideas about where we came from and where we are going. - We say YES to life, this world, this reality. We see suffering and impermanence as things that make life worth living, they help us to appreciate what we have and motivate us to make things better. Life is not an illusion or a dream. - Reality is real and we have a healthy relationship to it. • 2. Emergentism • Consciousness is an emergent quality of matter, not the source of it (idealism/dualism is antiquated) this emergentist perspective cannot be reduced to empiricism or UR reductionism. (no tetra-arising all the way back - only in sentient beings) - chemistry is not love - that is anthropomorphic projection (acting like inanimate objects have human feelings) and pseudoscience (working backwards from what you would like to be true and trying to find ways to make the world fit into religious/mythic preconceptions about it). • 3. Pre/trans distinctions. • The cup (poetry) and the sword (rationality). Understanding the relative nature of all language, we can speak poetically within our community using any and all symbol sets and we can qualify our poetry in terms of something real. - We can also use the power of these distinctions as translations down the spiral - to speak the language of other traditions or worldviews from within other traditions and move them towards goodness and truth. - skillful means. • 4. Epistemic skillfulness and humility • not making claims and assertions we can’t back up with good reasons and evidence - responsible leadership. - Understanding the quadratic validation process. • 5. Embraces Life • Becoming, creating, and self-mastery, not just self-transcendence and states. Post-formal Integral religion. 4 S’s of spiritual practice. Reality is real and we have a healthy relationship to it. Our ultimate goals are not “personal spiritual enlightenment, freedom, and transcendence” but a better world in the here and now for us all. • 6. Movement/Lifestyle vs Products/Events • Skillful leadership organization integration and outreach • Affordable and available events for all economic classes. • Encouraging, connecting and expanding/refining, and participating in the integral movement/culture. • 7. Embracing Debates and Disagreements • We care about the actually true/good - Creative friction and tension help us refine and grow. • 8. rEvolutionary • Nonviolent approach to rEvolution, New transformational (governance, educational, religious, social, etc.) systems, not just translation. Collective-individualist Integral synthesis (move the hierarchy from the economic sphere to the public sphere - move the society more to the middle and focus on individual needs/growth as investment in the future - so individuals can bring their skills to the project of humanity - integral emergent transparent interactive governance system. • 9. Anti- Racism • Racism is not tolerated. If people make explicit racist statements or implications they will be kicked out unless/until they denounce racism and apologize. • 10.
