Continued-- Next, I center the hinge side of the jamb with the wall, and I nail it at the top shims. • I use the level to make sure the jamb is plumb before I nail off the other two shim locations. • If it’s leaning in or out it will cause the door to open or shut on its own. • Now I turn to the latch side- I align the jamb with the wall and nail the top off. • Then standing inside the room I open and shut the door to make sure it’s landing evenly on the door stop. • As I work my way down, adding shims and nailing, I also check the reveal on the front to make sure it consistent. • At this point I start adding shims wherever they are needed, including the top- checking the reveal as I go. • These holes get filled with putty when the door is painted. • Now the door shuts with an even reveal on all three sides. • I replace one screw in each hinge with a longer 2 1/2” screw- this secures the door to the framing and ensure it won’t move. • Finally- I used my multi-tool to cut off all the shims. • Let me know if you would like to see the casing installed. ‪@hausplans‬ • #build #howto #install #prehung #interiordoor #construction #diy #contractor #carpentry #stepbystep #door
