We were devastated by his untimely death but my mom was most affected by his passing away. They were childhood • sweethearts and they had the most heart-warming love story. When dad died, mom shut almost everyone out of her life; except for three children. She stopped seeing our family friends, stopped going to the places where she and dad often enjoyed visiting and confined herself in the house the entire time. We visited her in her house often; asked her to go on vacations with us; and introduced her to new activities and people but none of it seemed to help. We thought that maybe if she fell in love again, she’d get over dad. We set up a tinder account for her in the hope that she’d open herself up to other men. However, mom simply refused to meet anyone. You see, she had always been a very modest woman. She believed that seeing another man is a form of infidelity to our dad. We thought that she would never be happy again and it took a lot of reasoning and convincing before she eventually agreed to go on a date with another man. • Eventually, she met a man her age that piqued her interest and they got married. Mom was happy once again and it was good to see her return to her old self and along with it returned her conservative nature. My siblings and I were all unmarried and she’d constantly remind us about how we should never engage in premarital sex; how my brothers should never pursue a woman without the intention of marriage; and how I as a lady should dress appropriately.
