Update: My new carrom trick shots video: • • Carrom Shots - Queen and Cover puzzles • How to hold Carrom Striker • Types of grips on Striker • The two most widely seen Carrom Striker holds are listed below. • 1. Scissor Hold • This is a very professional style, and was very popular with players of the earlier generation. • It provides good amount of power as well as control. Useful for hitting the opening break shot. • Variations include vertical position unsupported scissor, inclined with other fingers providing the support, and the almost horizontal position scissor where the side of the palm rests on the carrom board. • 2. Standard Index Finger hold • This is the most common style seen these days. It gives good control and consistency when it is mastered with practice. • The other types of inclined finger holds are less common though not bad. • Single finger strikes (with either index or middle finger) are rarely practiced however, as these offer much lesser control and power. • Avoid this common mistake: • Beginner level carrom players is to keep too much of a gap between the striking finger and the carrom striker before the release. • Ideally the striking finger should be completely steady and should be lightly resting against the striker before the release. • And choose a grip that suits you. • Every person is different. The shape of the fingers, curvature of nails and the relative length of fingers differs. Hence its important to choose a grip that feels the most comfortable and natural to you. • Enjoy the game.
