A head transplant on a monkey was successfully performed in China, according to Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero. The surgery, led by Xiaoping Ren, successfully stitched the monkey head onto another body without any neurological damage; however, the team did not try to reconnect the spinal cord. The monkey was euthanized after 20 hours for ethical reasons. Canavero hopes to carry out the world's first head transplant next year.
