The Life of a Dog Rescuer! Sometimes life throws you a wicked curveball, but a rescuer's priorities are the precious souls they care for! Smiling Dog Rescue was born 18 years ago in Tucson, AZ. Saving, rehabilitating, and finding fabulous furever homes for more than 6000+ discarded lives, victims of misplaced bigotry and media exploitation of the pit bull breed. Being a retired vet tech, we have used our 5-acre ranch home for literally thousands of rescue foster dogs for specialized care during these last 18 years. Three months ago, 1/4 of our home was flooded and nearly burned to the ground, which resulted in black mold everywhere, requiring extensive reconstruction that has still not been mediated due to slow insurance! Being a severe asthmatic, this has greatly impacted my health, but we chose not to relocate during the reconstruction due to our rescue commitments: 10 adult foster dogs, 2 rescue horses, 9 chickens, and a crazy B G Macaw! On Tuesday night, my mission nearly ended on the way to the emergency room, and by the grace of GOD, I'm still here. My poor husband rescue partner is still in shock; it broke my heart to see the panic on his face! For now, treatments, testing, and rehab are my immediate future, and as for the ranch, we will continue rebuilding! All of this to say that Smiling Dog Rescue is on an intake hold for the time being until we can make other arrangements.
