How to snake a clogged sink Unclogged Episode 2

I will be using my Spartan 100 machine with me 1/2 seventy five foot inner core cable by spartan. • I was called out to this customers house on superbowl Sunday, he said he was having some friends over and during meal prep the kitchen sink had started to back up and the disposal was not working. Normally if the Disposal is not spinning the Disposal will start to hold water causing it to appear backed up. However this was not the case for this particular call, The garbage disposal was completely fine it was one of the nicer disposals you can buy with stainless steel insides its made by Insinkerator and I believe it is either one horsepower or a horse and a half. • The customer informed me they had been trying to plunge the drain and had used a few different home remedy's to try and unclog the drain. They used Vinegar and Peroxide, Vinegar and Baking soda, Vinegar and Hot water, None of these combinations worked and I wouldnt expect them to ever actually clear a clog. Those combinations may work if you have a slow draining sink and want it to drain faster. • The best way to maintain a drain once its been unclogged by a plumber using a snake or drain machine is boiling a pot of hot water and dumping it down the disposal side of the sink while the disposal is on. That helps force the boiling hot water down the drain and the boiling water will actually clean alot of the gunk and grease right off the pipe especially if it is ABS or PVC drain pipe. • Whenever I unclog a sink with my Spartan 100 machine I always run the cable all the way out its entire 75 feet because I want to know that I at the very least pushed whatever the clog was out to the city side of the main sewer. • If im snaking through a drain line under the sink and not through a clean out I always want to make sure Ive given myself the straightest shot down the drain by cutting off any bends that could cause our snake to have some trouble as it works its way down the line. • I cut off the P trap in this video because It had a 45 degree bend on it that really wasnt needed and the P trap was done in White ABS or PVC and the problem with the white tubular P traps is they allow light in unlike the black ABS pipe the light causes bacteria and other things to grow on the inside of the pipe which causes bad smells and other issues over time. • You never want to use draino or any other commercial drain cleaning chemicals in your residential home's drain's. Believe me as a professional if there was some magic liquid that could clear clogs without having to stick a snake down and make a mess I would be all over it! Not only would I be all over it I would encourage people to use it because I ABSOLUTELY hate snaking drains. • Trust your plumbers opinion... He is the professional you hired him for a reason dont think you are smarter than the plumber when it comes to things regarding plumbing.
