In his opening remarks at Thursday's hearing over a sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley said I lament how this hearing has come about. • The Iowa senator said the Democrats have refused to help move the committee's investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's allegation against Kavanaugh forward in a meaningful way. • Grassley delivered his opening remarks in front of Ford at the start of the hearing. The panel is comprised of 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats.
