Did you know that Barbie dolls were once made in the Philippines? In 1976, Mattel took a momentous step by establishing Mattel Philippines Inc., their first fully owned subsidiary in the Bataan Export Processing Zone. The subsidiary's efficient Filipino workers produced Barbie accessories and dolls for global distribution. Despite early praise from Mattel Philippines President James Archer for the workers' progressiveness, financial challenges and controversies eventually led to a slowdown. In 1988, Mattel made the difficult decision to bid farewell to the Philippines, making these dolls produced during their short stay potentially rare collector's items. Barbie's influence extends far beyond the toy aisle, as she has become an everlasting symbol of pop culture. From Aqua's famous song Barbie Girl to the latest online buzz surrounding the famous Barbie movie featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbie remains a viral sensation and an all-time favorite in various types of media. • Need a voiceover for your project?
